"When I fused it with heat, the wax flowed more than on other surfaces. It actually will flow to an absolute smooth flatness, which gives it more of a glaze-like look" Carol Rae

"The first time I tried encaustic on PC Substrates™, I noticed that it received the wax very differently than porous surfaces. It seemed to cool instantly before the brush stroke was even finished. That isn't a problem, it just took some getting used to.
If the Porcelain Canvas Substrate™ is placed on a heated surface while painting, the wax flows like glaze. When I fused it with heat, the wax flowed more than on other surfaces. It actually will flow to an absolute smooth flatness, which gives it more of a glaze-like look. The material heats up quickly and cools down just as quickly, giving the artist flexibility.
I had concerns that painting encaustic wax on a non porous surface might chip off easily. It isn't a problem, the wax actually adheres very well.
The translucency of the material and the encaustic paints has led me to think about creating light boxes as a way to display the paintings. " Carol Rae
